Wrongful death lawyers may not be able to bring a family member back, but they can bring justice to their lost life.
Wrongful death is commonly defined when a person has died due to negligence, malpractice, or the inaction of another person. People are supposed to obey traffic laws while driving and pay close attention to how the rules of the road change. This could mean entering a construction zone, a school zone, or simply watching for changing speed limits.
Drivers are supposed to avoid distractions while driving that include talking on a cell phone (in some states), texting, or driving drunk. However, if another party fails to comply, and their negligent or distracted behavior causes an auto accident that kills a family member, you may have reason to file a wrongful death lawsuit.
During the first week of October, a pickup truck recklessly crossed multiple lanes of an interstate in Williamsburg, Kentucky, killing a pregnant woman and a child. The driver of the truck was charged with drunk driving, three counts of murder, and with driving with a suspended license according to the Kentucky State Police.
In this case, because of the late term of the victim’s pregnancy, one of the murder charges included the life of her unborn child.
The family of that woman would do well to contact wrongful death lawyers. According to statements issued by the police, 14 vehicles were affected by the driver of the pickup truck and many people, including children, suffered injuries as a result. Included in the list of victims were Cindy Haas, 25, and Gus P. Pontikis, 8 who both lost their young lives because of the recklessness and careless of one person who made the conscious decision to drive drunk that day. The driver, 45-year-old Raymond Garner suffered minor injuries and was released to the Whitley County jail shortly after being admitted to a Tennessee hospital.
Although we can only control our own actions, we can make sure that those who choose to make negligent decisions, like driving drunk, are held accountable for their actions. Wrongful death lawyers can help by offering clarity in a very difficult and enraging situation.
Getting behind the wheel of a car is something that many of us do daily. It is how we get to work, how we get our children to school, and how we make our way to the grocery store to buy food for our families. It is something that most of us are able to do safely and responsibly every single day.
So if a loved one is taken from you during their routine drive by someone else’s inability to abide by the law, it is in your best interest to speak with a team of wrongful death lawyers in your area.
