Personal injury lawyer and legal professionals in related fields understand the pain and suffering you go through when the unthinkable happens to someone you love.
Personal injury cases span a wide range of definitions and examples that include both physical, psychological, and emotional injury.
Dr. Melvin D. Levine was once one of the most well respected pediatricians in Boston, Massachusetts. His patient book was extensive, and many of his patients described him as a good doctor whom they trusted with their children. However, when Dr. Levine was charged with a class-action sexual abuse and malpractice suite in February this year, betrayal and anger resonated with his patients and their families.
Personal injury lawyer teams represented a number of patients and families whose trust and confidence was shattered by his negligent and “medically unnecessary” actions towards his patients. The suit alleged that Dr. Levine, while practicing medicine at Children’s Hospital Boston between 1966 and 1985, sexually abused an undisclosed number of male patients.
Many of the victim’s families consulted a personal injury lawyer or malpractice lawyer following the allegations made by Dr. Levine’s patients.
Although many of his patients and their families maintained that he betrayed their trust and his oath as a medical professional, Dr. Levine maintained his innocence. He was never convicted of any abuse charges, and he did not face criminal sexual abuse charges. However, after the suit was filed and he signed a consent order that he would no longer practice medicine, the New York Times report that Dr. Levine had taken his own life. “Dr. Levine was found in the woods near his Rougemont, N.C., home with a gunshot wound to his forehead. His death was reported a day after a class-action sexual abuse and malpractice suit was filed against him in Boston,” the article stated.
According to the article, until the sexual abuse charges, Dr. Levine was a leading advocate for children with learning disabilities whose fame spread through his book, ‘A Mind at a Time’, as well as through the PBS documentary ‘Misunderstood Minds’.
Dr. Levine’s innocence or guilt may never be known for sure. However, if a medical professional is violating a patient’s trust, it is imperative that they contact a lawyer.
A personal injury lawyer will be much more equipped to deal with the investigation side of a legal case than the average person.
Medical professionals are people we are supposed to be able to trust. They are professionals who help us keep ourselves and our children healthy. We should be able to trust them with complete confidence.
