:: NEURONTIN LITIGATION

Brought on the market in 1995, Warner-Lambert’s drug, Neurontin, was originally approved by the FDA for use in controlling epileptic seizures in conjunction with another drug. Almost immediately, Neurontin was promoted for “off-label” use – use for problems not approved by the FDA. Promoting “off-label” use is illegal and Pfizer is currently being investigated for the promotion of "off-label" use by the attorney general of numerous states. Recent lawsuits against Pfizer reveal that it paid physicians thousands of dollars in incentives to prescribe Neurontin for "off-label" uses based on questionable research.

Since its inception, the use of Neurontin has been promoted by Pfizer as being effective for the treatment of the following:

  • Bipolar disorder
  • Pain
  • Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)
  • Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)
  • Migraines
  • Drug and Alcohol Withdrawal Seizures
  • Restless Leg Syndrome
  • Monotherapy Treatment for Epilepsy

The FDA had approved none of the treatments so, consequently, what Pfizer did was illegal. Pfizer has recently pled guilty to illegally marketing Neurontin in the unapproved treatment of the above.
