What is Neurontin?
Neurontin is the brand name of the drug gabapentin. It was approved by the FDA for help in the treatment of epileptic seizures but only if taken in conjunction with another medication.

Can Neurontin be used for anything else?
Not legally. The “off-label” usage for treatment other than approved by the FDA is what has Pfizer in litigation. The unapproved uses of Neurontin include:

* Migraines
* Drug and alcohol withdrawal seizures

Does Neurontin have any adverse side effects?
As with any medication, there are side effects associated with the use of Neurontin. More mild side effects can include:

* Dizziness
* Drowsiness
* Poor coordination
* Blurred or double vision
* Nausea and vomiting
* Irregular back and forth eye movement
* Tremors

A more serious side effect that requires you to stop taking Neurontin and contact your prescribing physician immediately is an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, closing of the throat, swelling of the lips tongue or face and hives).

Should I stop taking Neurontin?
You should never suddenly stop taking any medication without your doctors’ permission. Contact your prescribing physician immediately and discuss your options for alternative treatment.
